Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays are my busiest days. I wake up sometime between 5:30 and 6:00a depending if Lila wakes up before my alarm. Then I feed Lila for as long as she likes. This can be anywhere from 15-45 minutes. She generally falls right back to sleep. This is when I scoot her next to Dave and get ready for the day. Somewhere between 7 and 7:30, I change Lila’s diaper and feed her again. I leave the house no later than 8:00.
I arrive at Starbucks anywhere between 8:00 and 8:15, get a tall cup of coffee and often times an oatmeal. I have a cool reusable Starbucks sleeve (seen in above pic) that I use I love my Starbucks times. Sometimes I do some grading, other times I just sit an enjoy my coffee and oatmeal. Starbucks is right down the street from the school I teach at, so I cheat and park there for the next hour. I justify it because I was a customer. Yeah yeah, I know I shouldn’t… but it’s only an hour!!
I teach at the Ricks Center (8th grade geometry) from 8:30-9:30 and get home at around 9:45. Then I feed Lila from the moment I walk in the door until about 10:40. I have office hours at DU from 11:00-12:00 so Dave drops me off. I teach Calc 1 from 12:00-1:00 and Dave picks me up. Usually, he will stay at school at this point and I take Lila home and immediately feed her.
It’s definitely a lot of wok each morning to make sure Lila is well fed, but our system works. I’m really enjoying teaching at both places and wouldn’t change anything about our situation. As much as I think I’d enjoy being a 100% stay at home mom, I also think I’d go a bit crazy at times. My mornings at Starbucks (though short) and office hours (since students rarely come) are nice “me” times.
