Last night was rough

Most nights aren’t too bad. Lila will typically wake up 1-2 times but we’ll both fall right back asleep nursing, so it isn’t a big deal. She always starts the night in her bassinet and I bring her to bed with me the first time she wakes up.

Last night, she only woke up twice, but the first time was for 3 hours! When she woke up at 12:30, I did what I always do and immediately started feeding her, but she was the out of ordinary one and didn’t fall right to sleep! I swear I fed her for an hour strait – and it wasn’t nice and relaxing so that I could sleep either. No, Lila was flailing her free hand around like a maniac the whole time.

Once it was obvious that she wasn’t going to fall asleep and she wasn’t interested in eating, I let her lay between Dave and I and play with the blankets, my hand, and talk to herself. At one point she pulled Dave’s hair (mwahaha). She was happy with this for about an hour and I of course didn’t get an ounce of sleep.

She eventually got a little irritable, so I got up to change her diaper and try to get her to fall asleep. I made a point to make the diaper change very boring by not even really giving her any eye contact. I was all business. I don’t want Lila to think the middle of the night is a time when fun things happen. No fun! 😉 Then I wrapped her up nice and tight in a thin, stretchy blanket and paced the bedroom while holding her until she fell asleep. At 3:15a, I put her back in her basinet and was finally able to get some sleep.

Before I knew it, it was 8:30a and Lila woke up happy and ready to begin her day… laying right next to me. WTF? Sometime between 3:15 and 8:30, Lila woke up and I nursed her back to sleep – I don’t remember it. Not a minute of it. I was that tired.

After feeding her, Dave got up with Lila so I could get some more sleep. She fell back asleep at 10:30, I woke up at 11:30, and Lila woke up about 15 minutes ago and is happily playing with the sunflower that is attached to her crib. That’s a 3 hour nap she just took… to make up for the 3 hours she didn’t sleep last night.

What a night.
