I was cooking and doing dishes (yeah, crazy, I know!) when Lila came excitedly running and screaming “Mommy! I draw my name!” I’ve seen her “write” her name in the past, but she was never this excited about it before, so I asked to to bring it to me. For the first time, I actually recognized her name! Though, if I didn’t know it said her name, I may not have been able to read it.
So, I sat down with her and showed her how I write her name. Then she asked me to do Mommy, Daddy, Grandpa, Grampsy, and Grammy. Dinner was about to burn, so I wrote her name one more time, wiped it clean, and asked her to write her name again while I finished getting dinner ready.
A few minutes later, she presented me with this.
WOW! Ok, the “I” is a little strange looking, but that really, actually, for-real looks like “LILA”! I’ve been beaming with pride since.
Being me, I immediately hunted down some good iPad apps for learning to write. Here’s a little video of her doing a great job of writing with her little special crayon and iTrace – handwriting for kids.
