Pet Photography

I absolutely adore taking photos of my dogs. It’s definitely one of my favorite forms of photography. Lately it’s been too cold for me to be motivated enough to go outside to take pics. We also haven’t had much sunlight these days to give me good natural indoor light. I’ve taken some pics using lights from the apartment, but I haven’t mastered the white-balance settings on my camera so the pictures have a yellowy look to them (honetsly, I haven’t tried messing with the white-balance much). Since I wasn’t happy with any of those pics, I didn’t share any of them.

Well, this weekend we had some good sunlight! I didn’t take any outdoor shots, but I did indoors. I had a lot of fun. All of these were taken with my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens. LOVE this lens. I think I was generally shooting at 3.2 and my ISO was up at about 1000 (I’m too lazy to find out exactly). One thing I love about the Nikon D90 is how ISO 1000 is actually a low ISO and there is no sign of graininess!

Ok, here’s my favorites :) (more…)

Photography: Senior Portraits

Last week I experienced a first and shot portrait photography. My cousin Michael is a senior in high school this year, so I took his senior pics. It was pretty fun and I think I did a decent job considering it was my first time. I was most nervous about poses and brought my mom along to help. It also helped that Michael is photogenic and a natural poser anyway :)  We went to two different locations: Carmel Mission and the Monterey City Hall.

I took 416 shots total and a good 100 of them were of Mikey flipping his head back to “fix his hair”. Sometimes his hair would look the best I’ve seen it in my life and then, bam, a hair flip. So funny.

I want to share with you my favorites. Feel free to provide feedback, both negative and positive are welcome.

Night Photography

This past weekend was spent at the lake with a bunch of my family. It was fun and good to see aunts and cousins that I haven’t seen in awhile. While there, I decided to experiment with some night photography. I don’t have much experience in this area and thought it would be fun.

Showing Porn in Class

ABC reports that a high school teacher in Phoenix, AZ accidentally showed a class of 13 students 6 pornographic video clips.

Forrest Martin was a photography teacher at Arcadia High School for five years.  He brought his personal laptop to class to present his lesson with a projector.  After giving his lesson, he assigned half the class to go outside and take pictures, while the remaining students worked on an in-class assignment.  Now that there was down time in class, Martin viewed it as a prime opportunity to catch up on the latest porn that one student described as “torture porn, of like girls being tied up”.

He forgot the projector screen was turned on and he started watching porn and we were all just like sitting there shocked that he was watching this in front of the class.  He was just all into it, I don’t even think he was paying attention to us, he was just all in his computer. Just like knowing that he watched that in front of everybody it’s… I wouldn’t want him near me.

The school responded to this incident with a letter to the parents which read:

On Monday, September 8th, it is alleged that in one of our Photography classes, thirteen students were inadvertently shown material inappropriate for the classroom by their teacher. Arcadia administration became aware of these allegations after the school day had ended. The teacher was placed immediately on administrative leave and the matter was referred to the district office for a full investigation. The safety and welfare of our students is always our first priority. Thus, our entire administrative team worked diligently to personally contact parents, speak with individual students and offer any support/counseling services to those affected.

Please be assured that we have followed all district and school policies and procedures. We have begun our efforts to find a highly qualified teacher replacement, and are determined to move our Photography Program in a positive direction.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Arcadia administration. We thank you for your continued support of our excelling school.

Youtuber Philip DeFranco named Forrest Martin as douche-bag of the day.

Now, I know this isn’t exactly a “new” story, but I just heard about it today and I am just amazed at how stupid a man could be.  I dunno, I think if I was him I would be so nervous about getting caught that I would’ve at least made sure all my tracks were covered… like unplugging my laptop from the projector!  Watching porn is gross enough, but watching it while sitting in front of a class of high school students is outright disgusting and wrong.

I find it somewhat amuzing that it wasn’t until 6 videos were played that the students were finally “able” to get their teacher’s attention.  I know if I was in that class, I would’ve had his attention within 15 seconds.  But I was also an extremely sheltered kid and would probably been pretty freaked out.  Most (if not all) of the boys in that classroom had probably already seen their fair share of porn and weren’t disturbed in the slightest.  Given the type of porn that was playing, though, I wouldn’t be suprised if at least a couple girls are seriously bothered by it and take advantage of the counceling that the school is offering.
